Study Tour 1 - Digital/Industrial

IFEZ (Incheon Free Economic Zone) PR Centre
(20 minutes)

IFEZ PR Centre, located on the 33rd floor of G-tower, boasts the best views in Songdo.
Visitors can enjoy impressive views of Central Park, Hanok Village, and the Northeast Asia Trade Tower of Oakwood Premier Incheon at a glance.
A multilingual presentation on the IFEZ development plan and progress of the project is also available for those who sign up in advance.

Smart City Integrated Operation Centre
(30 minutes)

Located on the 4th floor of G-tower, IFEZ Smart City Integrated Operation Centre is an institution that proactively responds to problems by carrying out 24/7 monitoring of traffic, crime prevention, disaster prevention, the environment and more across the IFEZ area, which includes Songdo, Yeongjong and Cheongna.
From the urban planning and development stage, various ubiquitous technologies were applied to connect the entire city through a single communication network and to integrate control systems.
Traffic information is collected in real-time to crack down on illegal parking or traffic violations, and firefighters and police are immediately dispatched in case of an emergency through a smart crime prevention system.

National Museum of World Writing Systems
(50 minutes)

The National Museum of World Writing Systems is the third museum dedicated to writing systems in the world, following the Champollion Museum in France and the National Museum of Chinese Writing.
The National Museum of World Writing Systems gathers and studies new and important information revealed from everything that letters possess, and holds exhibitions and educational sessions based on these stories.
In such a way, it shares the historical value of world writing systems and provides content that allows visitors to experience the diversity of cultures through letters. From ‘cuneiform’, the first letters of mankind, to ‘Hangul’ - the museum tells the story of the birth, development and future of letters that led the development of human civilisation.

Study Tour 2 - Culture/Experience

Incheon Hyanggyo and Dohobu Government Office (Historic Buildings)
(20 minutes)

Hyanggyo was a Confucian school founded by the nation to teach people, keep renowned sages’ memorial tablets and hold rituals.
It is unclear when the Tangible Cultural Property Incheon Hyanggyo Confucian School was built, but a record says that it was renovated in 1406, so we presume it was built earlier than that. In its present renovated form, the rear side comprises of ritual buildings and the front side houses a classroom and dormitory buildings, demonstrating the traditional layout commonly used at the time.

Dohobu was an administrative office of the Joseon era ranked between the superior office, mok, and the subordinate ones, gun (district) and hyeon (prefecture).
The Joseon Dynasty divided the whole country into eight ‘do’s (provinces), and there were daedobobus (greater Dohobu), mok, Dohobus, guns and hyeons below the do province for local administration.

Traditional Tea Ceremony Experience at the Incheon Intangible Cultural Heritage Centre
(60 minutes)

Darye is a traditional form of tea ceremony practiced in Korea. Darye literally refers to ‘etiquette for tea’ and has been kept among Korean people for over a thousand years.
At the Incheon Intangible Cultural Heritage Centre, visitors can learn Korean traditional tea ceremonies directly from Korea’s intangible cultural assets.

Study Tour 3 - Environment/Energy

Songdo Waste Treatment Facility
(70 minutes)

The Songdo Waste Treatment Facility is a large-area waste treatment facility that produces heat (steam) energy by crushing and drying household waste from Incheon’s Yeonsu-gu and Namdong-gu areas.
The centre is contributing to IFEZ’s profits by providing leftover heat energy as heating energy for local households. Unlike other regions, the facility also operates a recycling facility together, which significantly reduces transportation and waste treatment costs.
An opportunity for visitors to check the waste incineration process themselves, the facility is popular among those working within the resource and environment sectors, from both domestic and abroad, as one of the best places to explore actual practices
